Julian was admitted as a solicitor in 1989, and founded our Employment Law department soon after that.
A member of the Employment Lawyers Association, he has a wide breadth of experience acting for both Employers and Employees. Julian has dealt with many complex cases, including the high profile cases of Franks v Reuters [2003] in the Court of Appeal, and several cases in the Employment Appeal Tribunal.
Noted for providing a bespoke service to each of his clients, tailor-made for their particular situation, Julian recognises just how stressful employment problems can be; so much is at stake – career, reputational damage, the ability to earn a livelihood, carrying on working in very difficult circumstances. His patient, calm and painstaking approach, looking at not only the specific details but also the “bigger picture” is particularly valued by his clients, enabling him to get the best outcomes for them.
He is also known for his straight-talking, with both clients and his opponents, and for being a formidable negotiator.
Through his employer health check he is able to head-off disputes by ensuring that all employers (however small or large) are fully legally complaint. He is also particularly skilled in providing tailored advice at an early stage of any dispute therefore avoiding the need for litigation.
Julian’s hourly charging rate is £252 including VAT. Julian divides his time between his specialist Employment and Licencing work.
