Gerard qualified as a Solicitor in 2001 having joined the firm in 1998. Ged qualified subsequently as a Court and Police Station Duty Solicitor in 2002.
He has represented numerous clients during his career from their initial arrest and detention at the Police Station to eventual trial and case conclusion. He has considerable experience of a broad range of criminal offences including rape, conspiracy to defraud and robbery.
Ged now specialises in all aspects of Magistrates Court advocacy. He has developed a particular specialist advocacy practice in the field of Dangerous Dogs Act defence cases together with driving, motoring and Road Traffic Act offences.
He represents clients on a Legal Aid and private instruction basis on a daily basis at the Police Station and the Magistrates Court.
Set out below are a number of examples of recent cases that Ged has been instructed in:
R –v- X – Crown Court. Ged’s client was a Senior Manager for a large investment bank. He faced an allegation of dangerous driving at the Crown Court. The Judge was successfully persuaded to suspend a prison sentence imposed which allowed the client to keep his liberty and his employment.
R –v- K – Court of Appeal. In this matter Ged acted for a client whose sentence was reduced from 21 months imprisonment to 15 months custody allowing for the client’s immediate release by the Court of Appeal.
