Our Mental Health solicitors are experts in this field of law and work hard to ensure that the rights of our clients are upheld.

We regularly visit clients who have been detained in hospital and will thoroughly review all medical notes and treatment options. Our team are able to assist through all stages of the process including advising and assisting clients at Manager’s meetings, Care Programme Approach meetings and at Tribunals.

We undertake a full range of work including: –

• Representation at Tribunals
• Advice and Assistance relating to the Mental Health Act 1983, including admission to hospital, consent to treatment and aftercare provisions.
• Obtaining independent psychiatric reports.
• Advising relatives regarding the process and their rights.
• Challenging decisions made through Judicial Review Proceedings
• Court of Protection work

To obtain this accreditation, we had to undergo a process which included mandatory training and assessments in front of a panel of experienced practitioners, to demonstrate that we have the required competency and knowledge. In particular, we must:

1. Be aware of the relevant laws, including medical treatment and patient confidentiality;
2. Have the sensitivity to understand the needs of a vulnerable client as a consequence of their mental disorder;
3. Have the ability to represent clients before tribunal effectively;
4. Be committed to representing the interests of clients with mental health difficulties
5. Continue to be compliant through re-accreditation every three years and have on-going checks by the Law Society.

Please note, only members of the Mental Health Scheme will be able to represent legally-aided clients at mental health tribunals.
